The Cub Scout Ranks

All new scouts begin by earning the Bobcat Rank.  Then they will work on the badge appropriate to their age and grade.  A scout that joins in 3rd grade, for example, will begin working on his Bear rank.  He will not earn the Tiger or Wolf badge.

BobcatBOBCAT

All NEW scouts (at any grade level) begin by earning their Bobcat badge.  This teaches them the basics of Cub Scouting, and starts them on the trail.  The requirements for the badge are:

  1. Learn and say the Scout Oath, with help if needed.
  2. Learn and say the Scout Law, with help if needed.
  3. Show the Cub Scout sign. Tell what it means.
  4. Show the Cub Scout handshake. Tell what it means.
  5. Say the Cub Scout motto. Tell what it means.
  6. Show the Cub Scout salute. Tell what it means.
  7. With your parent or guardian, complete the exercises in the pamphlet How to Protect Your Children From Child Abuse: A Parent’s Guide—Bobcat Requirements.

 

TigerTIGER

Cub Scouting begins for boys in First Grade, or who are 7 years old.  Members at this level  are called Tigers.  They work closely with an adult partner (parent or guardian) to begin their scouting trail.  The requirements for Tiger are:

  1. Complete each of the following Tiger required adventures with your den or family:
    1. Backyard Jungle
    2. Games Tigers Play
    3. My Family’s Duty to God
    4. Team Tiger
    5. Tiger Bites
    6. Tigers in the Wild
  2. Complete one Tiger elective adventure of your den or family’s choosing.
  3. With your parent or adult partner, complete the exercises in the pamphlet How to Protect Your Children From Child Abuse: A Parent’s Guide, and earn the Cyber Chip award for your age.

WolfWOLF

Members in second grade are called Cub Scouts, and work on the Wolf rank.  To earn the rank, they need to complete a series of adventures, which will be described in detail in their Wolf Handbook.  Here is an overview of their journey:

  1. Complete each of the following Wolf required adventures with your den or family:
    1. Call of the Wild
    2. Council Fire
    3. Duty to God Footsteps
    4. Howling at the Moon
    5. Paws on the Path
    6. Running With the Pack
  2. Complete one Wolf elective adventure of your den or family’s choosing.
  3. With your parent or guardian, complete the exercises in the pamphlet How to Protect Your Children From Child Abuse: A Parent’s Guide, and earn the Cyber Chip award for your age.

BearBEAR

Members in third grade are also called Cub Scouts, and work on the Bear rank.  To earn the rank, they need to complete a series of adventures, which will be described in detail in their Bear Handbook.  This is how the bear journey looks:

  1. Complete each of the following Bear required adventures with your den or family:
    1. Bear Claws
    2. Bear Necessities
    3. Fellowship and Duty to God
    4. Fur, Feathers, and Ferns
    5. Grin and Bear It
    6. Paws for Action
  2. Complete one Bear elective adventure of your den or family’s choosing.
  3. With your parent or guardian, complete the exercises in the pamphlet How to Protect Your Children From Child Abuse: A Parent’s Guide, and earn the Cyber Chip award for your age.

WebelosWEBELOS

Members in grades 4 and 5 are called Webelos Scouts, and work on the Webelos rank and the Arrow of Light award.  The requirements for these awards intertwine to a degree, but a scout can now earn either award without the other.  The basic requirements are:

Webelos Badge:WebelosOval

  1. Be an active member of your Webelos den for three months. (Being active means having good attendance, paying your den dues, and working on den projects.)
  2. Complete each of the following Webelosrequired adventures with your den or family:
  3.  Cast Iron Chef
  4. Duty to God and You
  5. First Responder
  6. Stronger, Faster, Higher
  7. Webelos Walkabout
  8. Complete two Webelos elective adventures of your den or family’s choosing.
  9. With your parent or guardian, complete the exercises in the pamphlet How to Protect Your Children From Child Abuse: A Parent’s Guide, and earn the Cyber Chip award for your age.

Arrow of LightArrowOfLight

  1. Be active in your Webelos den for at least six months since completing the fourth grade or for at least six months since becoming 10 years old. (Being active means having  good attendance, paying your den dues, and working on den projects.)
  2. Complete each of the following Arrow of Light required adventures with your den or family:
    1. Building a Better World
    2. Camper
    3. Duty to God in Action
    4. Scouting Adventure
  3. Complete three Webelos elective adventures of your den or family’s choosing.
  4. With your parent or guardian, complete the exercises in the pamphlet How to Protect Your Children From Child Abuse: A Parent’s Guide, and earn the Cyber Chip award for your age.
