We had many Scouts achieve their next ranks today. It was very exciting!!
Bike Rally:
Three groups of Scouts enjoyed their rides along the Montour Trail. One group even made it all the way through the tunnel! We thank all the parents and leaders who participated on the trail to keep all our Scouts safe.
Pack Family Campouts 2022
We have scheduled our three Pack Family Campouts, so save these dates:
June 24-26, 2022 at Raccoon Creek State Park Sioux B Campsite
August 19-21, 2022 at Tomlinson Run State Park Campground
September 9-11, 2022 at Raccoon Creek State Park Sioux B Campsite
Raccoon Creek State Park Sioux B Camping site is about 35 minutes from South Fayette. It is a primitive camping site with vault toilets and water nearby. There is plenty of room for families to set up tents and for the Scouts to play in the group tenting area. The weekend activities will include a one mile hike, fishing, swimming and kayaking for both of these trips to Raccoon State Park.
Tomlinson Run State Park Campground is in the northern tip of West Virginia and is about 50 minutes from South Fayette. We will be in the general campground with potable water, restroom and showers within walking distance. The highlight of this trip will be swimming at the state park pool and fishing on the lake. For this trip we have booked three non-electric sites which can accommodate six tenting families, so sign up ASAP to guarantee your family’s spot.
For all trips your family can join us for one night or both. If you are unable to camp overnight, please feel free to join us by 10AM on Saturday for morning activities, a hike, time spent at the lake in the afternoon and cooking our own dinner over the campfire or in a Dutch oven. Don’t let a lack of tenting equipment keep you out of the fun… Deb Whitewood has plenty of equipment to share.
Our typical schedule looks something like this:
Friday after 4PM– arrive at camp, set up tents, families cook their dinners, kids play and parents hang out by the campfire. Lights out by 10PM for the kiddos.
Saturday morning– families cook their breakfasts, kids play
Saturday 10AM to 12PM – activities and hike
Saturday 12PM to 1PM – families prepare lunch
Saturday 1PM to 4PM – activities at the lake or pool
Saturday 4PM to 7PM – Scouts and families prepare and tinfoil meals (Pack provides)
Saturday 7PM to 9:30PM – Scouts play and hang out by the fire
Saturday 10PM – Lights out for the kiddos
Sunday morning– families cook their breakfasts, kids play
We have the campsites until 3PM on Sunday. Families can choose to enjoy the amenities at the State Parks, including fishing, swimming and boating. Families choose when they would like to pack down their tents and head home.
In order to mitigate concerns regarding COVID-19, all families will bring their own food and prepare their own meals, with the exception of the dinner on Saturday. We will have tin foil pockets for dinner that evening which adult leaders will assist the Scouts in preparing in a sanitary manner. There will be a $5/person or $20/family charge for this dinner meal. Exact payment expected at the campsite.
Pre-registration is required even if you are just joining us for the day.
Signup sheets for all trips can be accessed here: http://pack843.org/sign-ups/
The sign up sheets for all trips will close five days prior to each event.
Detailed information will be sent to each family participating closer to the campout dates.

Pack 843 to March in Bridgeville’s Memorial Day Parade
Pack 843 will march in the Bridgeville Memorial Day parade on May 30, 2022. Prior to COVID, marching in the parade was always a highlight for our Pack and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to showcase our Scouts during the 2022 parade. If you will be in town during the Memorial Day weekend, please try to take time for your son or daughter to participate in this parade.
The pack will meet on Station Street in Bridgeville by the American Legion Post at 9:00AM. The parade starts at 10 AM and usually takes less than an hour.
The parade begins near Station Street and ends at the Cemetery past the GetGo.
It is suggested to park either at the cemetery or in the Aldi parking lot so you don’t have to walk all the way back to your vehicle after the parade.
Uniform shirts are required to be worn by the Scouts and adult leaders for the parade. The exception would be the Lions who are permitted to wear class B uniforms.
Advance signups are required so that the coordinator knows how much candy to purchase for the Scouts to pass out to the crowd. Please sign up here prior to
May 23rd: http://pack843.org/sign-ups/
Adult leaders are encouraged to participate so that we maintain two deep leadership at all times. Matt Gerhardt will be coordinating this event, so if you have any questions prior to the parade, please contact him at mattg296@gmail.com
UPDATE: Due to lack of interest Pack 843 will not participate in the Cubmobile Races this year.
On your marks, get set,…..GO!
The Frontier District Cubmobile Races will be held Saturday, May 7th at Settler’s Cabin Wave pool parking lot.
What is a Cubmobile? It’s a type of soapbox derby car that the Scouts race in 4 different events. There is one gravity (downhill) event, and three events with pushers and a driver. Teams of two to four scouts compete against other scouts of the same rank.
How do I get a Cubmobile? You build it! Linked is a file with blueprints and race details: https://scoutingevent.com/Download/52791459/OR/Leader_Guide.pdf
Or you can use one of the Pack cubmobile cars which were built in the past.
When/Where/How Much is the race? The race is at Settler’s Cabin, in the wave pool parking lot on May 7th. (Use the back entrance closest to the Ambulance entrance)
Check-in begins at 8:30. There is an opening ceremony at 9:15, and racing starts promptly at 9:30.
The cost is $10 per scout (money will be collected and scouts registered in advance).
To participate, please sign up here: http://pack843.org/sign-ups/
Racing ends at 2:00 PM.
Anything else? Dress WARM (even if it seems like a nice day — it’s cold on that hill!). You MUST wear a helmet, gloves, and long pants. Uniforms or “class Bs” are required, but they are usually under your coat, anyhow.
If you have questions about the Cubmobile Race, please contact Cubmaster,

Pittsburgh Pirates Color Guard Experience and Game
On Thursday, August 18th, Pack 843 will be serving as the Color Guard for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Our Pack will be going onto the field at PNC Park and presenting the flag for the National Anthem. Afterwards, we will have seats to watch the Pirates battle the Cincinnati Reds.
The cost of the tickets is $26 each and include $10 towards the concession stand.
You must sign up in advance and pay by a check made out to Pack 843. Please give all payments to Deb Whitewood. Payments must be received prior to July 17th.
You can drop payments off at the den meetings at Fairview Park, or at Deb’s home, 173 Greenwood Drive, Bridgeville, PA 15017.
Signup here prior to July 17, 2022. https://pack843.org/sign-ups/
All scouts and leaders MUST be in Class A uniform to go onto the field. The game begins at 7:05, but we will need to assemble at 5:30 at the cul-de-sac on Mazeroski Way to get prepared. As in prior years, we need to purchase 50 tickets in order to get the $26 per ticket price, so bring the siblings and Grandparents to the game! In the past we have had 70 scouts and family members attend this event. It is always a memorable night for everyone!
If you have any further questions regarding this event, please contact Deb Whitewood at whitewoodD@msn.com
