Blue and Gold Last Call!

The deadline to register to attend Blue and Gold is Wednesday, February 17th! If you have not sent in your registration form or mailed it in over the weekend, please EMAIL your count asap: hand.liz@gmail.com. By Thursday we need to give Fairview a count of how many to expect.

You can then send me your registration form and check. Don’t forget, if you wish to use your scout account, you will need to fill out a scout withdrawal form.

Blue and Gold Banquet Deadline

Reminder — due to the school schedule, there is NO DEN MEETING next Wednesday.  The next meeting will be on Wednesday, Feb. 24th.  Which mean that reservation for the Blue and Gold Banquet need to be completed BY MAIL — the deadline is Feb. 17th!

All Pack 843 Cub Scouts and their immediate families are invited to attend the Blue and Gold Banquet, our yearly celebration of Cub Scouting!  We will be recognizing the achievements and advancements within the Pack.  Our Webelos II scouts will be receiving their Arrow of Light — the highest award in Cub Scouting — and crossing over into Boy Scouting.  The event takes place Sunday February 28th from 3 to 6 PM at Fairview VFD Banquet Hall.

Scouts must be in full uniform for this event.

Ticket prices are as follows:

  • $14.95 for adults and non-scouts 10 years of age or older
  • $7.95 for Cub/Boy Scouts (of any Pack or Troop) and children under 10 years of age
  • Pack 843 Webelos II scouts and children under 3 are FREE

To purchase tickets, complete the reservation form at the bottom of this flyer, then:

  • Complete a scout account withdrawal form, or
  • Enclose a check to “Pack 843”.

* Cake contest details:  Each Scout and an adult partner are challenged to bake and decorate a Scout themed cake.  Some examples are camping, achievement activities, good deeds, etc.  There will be ribbons for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place.  The entire cake, including decorations, must be edible. No paper, toothpicks etc.  Only the thing it sits on doesn’t have to be edible but that can’t be part of the decoration.  After the competition the cakes will be served for desert so we would like as many participants as possible.  Place the Scout’s name on the underside of the cake so the competition is as anonymous as possible.  Judging will be done by our visiting Scoutmasters.

Scout Sunday

First a reminder — Den meetings this Wednesday at the Elementary School.  Hoagies must be picked up a this time!

ScoutSundayThe Boy Scouts of America designates the Sunday that falls before February 8 (Scouting Anniversary Day) as Scout Sunday, which is the primary date to recognize the contributions of young people and adults to Scouting.

St. Barbara’s in Bridgeville, will be celebrating a Scout Sunday service this Sunday, February 7 at 11am. All Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Eagle Scouts are invited!  Please come in full Class A uniforms. No jeans.  Scouts of any faith are invited to attend this service.

Join us for the council wide Scout Sunday Service on Sunday, February 21, 2016 beginning at 3:00 p.m.  This service is open to all Scouts, leaders and family members and is hosted by the Council Relationships Committee.  The service will be held at Holy Spirit B.C. Church, Oakland, 4815 Fifth Ave. Pittsburgh, 15213.  A reception will follow the service and patches will be available for the participants.  Please register by February 15th.

Resident Camp Information

Pack 843 will be attending Resident Camp at Heritage Scout Reservation, Camp Independence, on these dates:

Camp Archery

 Webelos (Current Bears and Webelos I’s):  July 6, 2016 – July 9, 2016

Cub Scouts (Current Tigers and Wolves):  July 9, 2016 – July 12, 2016

Cost for the camp will be $196 for cub scouts / webelos (early bird rate is $181);  $106 for parents (early bird rate is $96).  Deposit of $75 is due by March 15, 2016 to take advantage of the early bird rate.  Final payments are due by May 1, 2016.

More information will be circulated as it is provided by the District.

Last Call for Hoagie Orders

Your last chance to turn in hoagie orders is this Saturday, 1/30/2015 – Orders and Money collected 9 am – 11 am at Starbucks, off Bridgeville exit.

Remember to bring the correct payment, and a copy of the Turn-In Sheet.

Where and when do I pick up my order?

Wednesday, 2/3/2015 – Hoagies MUST to be picked up at the Den Meeting at Elementary School.  If you cannot be there to pick up your order you will need to find someone to pick up your order for you.  We do NOT have the space to keep your hoagies for you.

Frontier District Pinewood Derby – Feb. 6th

The 2016 Pinewood Derby and Mall Show will take place on February 6th at The Mall at Robinson.  This year our District is bringing back the infamous Mall Show portion to our Annual Pinewood Derby race!

Pinewood Derby participants, are you ready to start your engines? 1st and 2nd place winners at each den level are invited to enter the District Race.  Check in will start at 8:30 for the Tiger Division with the race kicking off at 9:00 A.M. There will be trophies for the 1st thru 3rd place winners in each division as well as a 1st thru 3rd place trophy for the over all winners.

The Best in Show judging will take place at 1:00 P.M. for any participant in both the race and any Cub Scout who wishes to enter his car!

Schedule —

  • Tiger check-in 8:30 -9:00
  • Opening at 9:00 and Racing begins!
  • Tigers-9:00
  • Wolf-10:30
  • Bear-12:00
  • Webelos-1:30
  • Grand Race Off-3:00

Note that both Webelos ranks race at 1:30.  Check-in will be done prior to each race, so try to be there early.  Entry fee is $5 per scout.  They will inspect your car there, following the same rules we used.

Pinewood Derby 2016 Results

Over 60 scouts braved the cold and snow to race their cars in the 2016 Pack 843 Pinewood Derby this past Saturday.  Congratulations to our top racers and trophy winners Dylan, Bradyn, And Matthew!

Pinewood Derby Jan 23rd

Pinewood DerbyPack 843 Pinewood Derby races are this Saturday, January 23rd at the Zion Lutheran Church.  Times are set by den level:

  • 10:00 AM Tigers (First Grade)
  • 11:30 AM Wolves (Second Grade)
  • 12:30 PM Bears (Third Grade)
  • 2:00 PM Webelos I (Fourth Grade)
  • 3:00 PM Webelos II (Fifth Grade)
  • 3:30 PM Winner Race  (1st, 2nd, and 3rd from each rank race-off for trophies)

Scout cars were required to go through the weigh-in last weekend to be eligible for the race.  The full set of rules is available in the “Resources” section of the website

After each race segment, there will be a Sibling’s Race.  Brothers and sisters of the scouts are invited to build a car (or borrow a car) and run race heats!

YES, there may be some snow.  But unless the National Guard shuts down the roads, we’ll be racing.

Pinewood Derby Weigh-in This Saturday

Weigh-InWeigh-in for the cars will be held on Saturday, January 16th from 10 AM to Noon at the Oakridge Fire Hall (where we had the Holiday Party).  All cars MUST BE AT THE WEIGH-IN in order to race!  If you are not available at that date and time, please make arrangements with another scout to bring your car to the weigh in.

Help will be on hand to make last-minute adjustments to the cars, and then they will be kept until race time.  Please bring your car in a small box with some padding, so that it can be safely collected and stored.
