Raingutter Regatta April 20th

regatta time! The Pack 843 Raingutter Regatta will be held during our April Pack Meeting, at 7:00 on Friday April 20th at the pavilion behind Zion Lutheran Church.  It is outside so dress appropriately.  All the boat kits for the Raingutter Regatta have been distributed to the den leaders.  If you did not get a boat kit yet, you should contact your den leader. The rules are the same as last year, and are available on the “resources” page or directly from this link.  In summary:  Make the boat look like the one on the box — no box or cup sails are allowed.  Decorate the boat the way you want, and we will have a vote for Best In Show.  During the race, two boys will go head-to-head, using their own wind power to move their boat.

Mad Science Friday

scientistThe March Pack Meeting is this Friday, March 18th at the Zion Lutheran Church.  Be there at 7:00 so you don’t miss anything when we throw the THIRD SWITCH.

We will be continuing with signups for lots of upcoming events — Day Camp, Resident Camp, Cubmobile Races, and some new activities that will be announced.  So lock up Igor, grab the brain of Hans Delbrook, and be there on time and in uniform!

Please! Remain in your seats, I beg you! We are not children here, we are scientists! I assure you there is nothing to fear!  — Dr. Frederick Frankenstein

Camperships Available

Every year, Pack 843 sets aside money to help boys attend Resident Camp or Summer Camp with the Pack.

IF you have a boy who would like to attend camp, but you have been reluctant because of the financial concerns,
OR you have signed up for camp already, but are worried about meeting the financial burden,
THEN we would like to help.  Please send an email with the scout’s name and some information about your situation to:  campership@pack843.org.  Your name will be kept confidential.

See these individual posts for details about Resident Camp (registration due by March 15th) and Day Camp (registration due by April 30th).  We’d like to help make this a summer for your scout to remember!

Frontier District Cubmobile April 2nd

On your marks, get set,…..GO!  The Frontier District Cubmobile Races will be held Saturday, April 2nd in the  Settler’s Cabin Wave pool parking lot.

Cubmobile RaceWhat is a Cubmobile?  It’s a type of soapbox derby car that the boys race in 4 different events.  There is one gravity (downhill) event, and three events with a pusher and a driver.  Teams of two to four scouts compete against other scouts of the same rank.

How do I get a Cubmobile?  You build it!  Linked is a pdf file with instructions and race details.  Several dens in the Pack have already built cars in the past, so if you are interested, ask around and you are sure to find some help.

When/Where/How Much is the race?  The race is at Settler’s Cabin, in the wavepool parking lot.  It’s Saturday April 2nd.  Check-in begins at 8:30.  There is an opening ceremony at 9:15, and racing starts at 9:30.  The cost is $10 per scout (money will be collect and scouts registered in advance).  Check-in runs until noon, and racing ends at 2:00 PM.

Anything else?  Dress WARM (even if it seems like a nice day — it’s cold on that hill!).  You MUST wear a helmet, gloves, and long pants.  Uniforms or “class Bs” are required, but they are usually under your coat, anyhow.

Blue and Gold Banquet This Sunday

Reminder that the Blue and Gold Banquet is this Sunday, Feb. 28th from 3:00 to 6:00 at the Fairview Fire Dept. Banquet Hall.  Scouts who have registered for the event should come in full uniform.

Don’t forget the cake contest!   Each Scout and an adult partner are challenged to bake and decorate a Scout themed cake.  Some examples are camping, achievements, activities, good deeds, etc.  There will be ribbons for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place.  The entire cake, including decorations, must be edible. No paper, toothpicks etc.  Only the thing it sits on doesn’t have to be edible, but that can’t be part of the decoration.   Judging will be done by our visiting Scoutmasters.

Day Camp 2016 – Safari Adventures

Safari Day Camp

Day Camp is an opportunity for Scouts to gather and participate in some great scouting activities:  Games, nature, crafts, scout skills, and of course archery and BB-gun shooting!  Pack 843 will be attending Day Camp at Settler’s Cabin Park on June 22-24.  Camp will run from about 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM.

The cost for camp will be $60 if you register and pay before April 30th.  After that date the cost goes up to $85.  As a bonus, anyone who registers and pays at the Den Meeting this Wednesday (Feb. 24) will receive a BONUS camp T-shirt!

Parents are not required to stay with their boys each day, but our Pack is expected to provide adult supervision.  We ask each parent to volunteer one day to spend at camp with the scouts.

Stop by the front desk at the den meeting for more information, or to sign-up for camp.

Pack 843 Shines at Frontier District Pinewood Derby

On February 7th a number of our scouts represented Pack 843 at the Frontier District Pinewood Derby at The Mall at Robinson.  And they represented us WELL!

Starting in the Tiger division, the first place trophy was captured by our own Dylan M.  Another first place was picked up in the Wolf division by our Pack’s Amudhan G.  The winning continued as the Bear first place trophy went to Bradyn L.

Pinewood District Winners 2016

Just like at our Pack event, the top racers in each den level went to a finals race.  When the final checkered flag dropped, Dylan M. came away with a 5th overall, and Bradyn L. brought home the FIRST PLACE trophy!

Congratulations to Amudhan, Dylan, Bradyn, and all the Pack 843 scouts on their racing success.
