2015 Blue and Gold Banquet

First a reminder — the next den meetings are this Wednesday, Jan. 7th at the Elementary School (or at an offsite location if you den has made plans).

The Pack 843 Blue and Gold Banquet is coming up on March 1st, 3PM at the Fairview VFD banquet hall.  All Pack 843 Cub Scouts and their immediate families are invited to attend this annual buffet dinner, our yearly celebration of Cub Scouting!  We will be recognizing the achievements and advancements within the Pack, as well as celebrating the Webelos II scouts crossing over into Boy Scouting.  We will also hold our traditional CAKE CONTEST — details to follow!

The cost for this dinner is $11 for adults, and $7 for Cub Scouts or Boy Scouts.  Reservations must be made before Feb. 15th.  Please print out the Blue and Gold Banquet flyer, and mail it (or bring it to a meeting) with your payment.

Christmas Caroling This Wednesday

The pack is scheduled to sing Christmas Carols at Washington Commons on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at 6:30 p.m.  We should be done by 8:00 p.m.

The songs we will be singing are available in this pdf.  Please print these out and have your boys practice prior to Wednesday so that they are familiar with the songs.  Parents are encouraged to sing with us as well.

We will bring about 30 booklets of the songs with us next week.

Pinewood Derby Rules

Pinewood DerbyThe official Pack rules for the 2015 Pinewood Derby have now been posted. The Derby will be held on Saturday, January 24th.  Please follow these links to

Just like last year, you are required to use official BSA wheels and the supplied axle nails.  You car cannot exceed 5 ounces, or the dimensions posted in the rules.

Weigh-in for the cars will be held on Saturday, January 17th from 10 AM to Noon.  All cars MUST BE AT THE WEIGH-IN in order to race!  If you are not available at that date and time, please make arrangements with another scout to bring your car to the weigh in.

Holiday Party Dec. 12th

All scouts and their families are invited to join us for the Pack 843 Holiday Party on Friday, December 12th.  snow_globeThe party will begin at 7:00 PM at the Oakridge Volunteer Fire Department hall.  A main course and drinks will be provided, and all families are asked to bring a side dish or dessert.  Activities include our monthly pack meeting and advancements, holiday crafts, and a holiday movie.

This will also be the last chance to pay your dues before our yearly rechartering.

Caroling — December 17th

carolingOn Wednesday, December 17th the Pack will be caroling at Washington Commons, 528 Dewey Avenue in Bridgeville.  We will meet there at 6:30, and begin caroling at 7:00.  There will not be regular den meetings on the 17th.

If you can attend, please drop a note to Mark Gubinsky (mark@gubinskylaw.com) and let him know.

Remember what Santa says:  “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.”  (I learned that from an elf).

Fall Hayride, This Sunday!

Pack HayrideTime for the Pack 843 Fall Hayride, Sunday October 19th!  The event starts at 3:00 PM at Boy’s Home Park (near Hogan Field, Boy’s Home Rd. off of Battle Ridge Rd.).  Planned festivities include

  • Advancements and awards
  • Pie throwing at the Cubmaster
  • Dinner
  • Hayride
  • A pumpkin patch (thanks to the new South Fayette Giant Eagle)
  • A visit from Oakridge Fire Dept.

Remember to bring the side dish or dessert you signed up for.  Seating is always limited, so bring lawn chairs if you can.

Fall Hayride Signups

Signup for the Fall Hayride (October 19th, 3:00 – 6:00) is now available on the “Sign-ups!” page (or click the link above).

Please remember to tell us the number of people who will attend, and what side dish or dessert you will bring.  To get a better balance of food, we are asking Wolf and Bear dens to bring a side dish, while Tigers and Webelos should bring a dessert.

If you already signed up at the last den meeting, you do not need to sign up again (but you can if you want to).

Den Meeting, Hayride, and Reminders

The next den meeting will be at the South Fayette Elementary School on Wednesday, Oct. 1st.  Times vary by den, so check with your Den Leader if you aren’t sure.

Pack HayrideThe Fall Hayride will be on Sunday, October 19th at Boy’s Home Park, 3:00 to 6:00 PM.  There will be food, games, a hayride, and the October Pack meeting, all rolled into one!  Scouts are asked to pre-register, and everyone is asked to bring a side or a dessert.  Stop by the front desk at the den meeting to sign up.

There are still TWO WEEKS to sell popcorn.  One show-n-sell remains, and you can sign up for that on the sign-up page.  Remember these goals:

  • Sell any item (just 1!) for a patch.  Other prizes start at just $60 in sales!
  • Sell at least one item and your Pack dues are reduced by $20.
  • Sell $350 worth and your dues are PAID IN FULL.
  • Sell $600 and you get an L.E.D. Stomp Rocket.
  • At the $600 level, you also get to PIE THE CUBMASTER at the October Hayride!

 

Fishing Derby 2014

For anyone interested, Pack 843 will be camping at Heritage Reservation the weekend of 9/19/14-9/21/14 for the District’s Fishing Derby weekend at Heritage Reservation.  We check in late Friday afternoon and check out early Sunday morning.

fishingThe cost is $45 per camper.  All meals are included.  Saturday will feature fishing and field sports, i.e. archery, bb guns.  Kayaks and canoes will be available for an additional $10.  We will be staying in tents again.  For those of you who have attended resident camp, it is a shorter scaled back version.  Take a look at the following website for more information:

Mark has have attended this event (some years it is called Mountainfest) each year they have held it for the past 6 years.  The attendance varies from year to year.  In some years the attendance is very light and other years they have been packed in like sardines.  In some years, we have had interior campsites (not close to parking) and last year everyone had to park off site and take shuttles.  Each year, however, everyone who attended had a very good time.

Mark will be making the reservation for our pack on August 31, 2014.  If you are interested in coming, hewill need your payment by then.

The Pack has been afforded the opportunity to purchase tickets for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds soccer game on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 7:00 p.m.  The regular cost of the Tier 1 level tickets is $20.  We can purchase the tickets at the discounted rate of $15.  If you are interested in attending the game with the pack, please email Mark Gubinsky at mark@gubinskylaw.com on or before July 21, 2014 and let him know how many tickets you would like to purchase.
