UPDATE: Due to lack of interest Pack 843 will not participate in the Cubmobile Races this year.

On your marks, get set,…..GO!
The Frontier District Cubmobile Races will be held Saturday, May 7th at Settler’s Cabin Wave pool parking lot.

Cubmobile Race

What is a Cubmobile?  It’s a type of soapbox derby car that the Scouts race in 4 different events. There is one gravity (downhill) event, and three events with pushers and a driver.  Teams of two to four scouts compete against other scouts of the same rank.

How do I get a Cubmobile?  You build it!  Linked is a file with blueprints and race details: https://scoutingevent.com/Download/52791459/OR/Leader_Guide.pdf
Or you can use one of the Pack cubmobile cars which were built in the past.

When/Where/How Much is the race?  The race is at Settler’s Cabin, in the wave pool parking lot on May 7th. (Use the back entrance closest to the Ambulance entrance)

Check-in begins at 8:30. There is an opening ceremony at 9:15, and racing starts promptly at 9:30.
The cost is $10 per scout (money will be collected and scouts registered in advance).
To participate, please sign up here: http://pack843.org/sign-ups/
Racing ends at 2:00 PM.

Anything else?  Dress WARM (even if it seems like a nice day — it’s cold on that hill!). You MUST wear a helmet, gloves, and long pants.  Uniforms or “class Bs” are required, but they are usually under your coat, anyhow.

If you have questions about the Cubmobile Race, please contact Cubmaster,

Pittsburgh Pirates Color Guard Experience and Game

On Thursday, August 18th, Pack 843 will be serving as the Color Guard for the Pittsburgh Pirates.  Our Pack will be going onto the field at PNC Park and presenting the flag for the National Anthem.  Afterwards, we will have seats to watch the Pirates battle the Cincinnati Reds.

The cost of the tickets is $26 each and include $10 towards the concession stand.
You must sign up in advance and pay by a check made out to Pack 843. Please give all payments to Deb Whitewood. Payments must be received prior to July 17th.
You can drop payments off at the den meetings at Fairview Park, or at Deb’s home, 173 Greenwood Drive, Bridgeville, PA 15017.

Signup here prior to July 17, 2022. https://pack843.org/sign-ups/

All scouts and leaders MUST be in Class A uniform to go onto the field.  The game begins at 7:05, but we will need to assemble at 5:30 at the cul-de-sac on Mazeroski Way to get prepared.  As in prior years, we need to purchase 50 tickets in order to get the $26 per ticket price, so bring the siblings and Grandparents to the game! In the past we have had 70 scouts and family members attend this event. It is always a memorable night for everyone!

If you have any further questions regarding this event, please contact Deb Whitewood at whitewoodD@msn.com

April Pack Meeting – Bike Rally and Scouting for Food

Parents and guardians are encouraged to participate in this ride, also wearing a helmet. Scouts who do not feel comfortable or ready for the trail will have the option of remaining at the Pavilion to practice riding there.

Scouts will be divided into three groups for the ride, beginner, intermediate and advanced. Each group will be supervised by Den Leaders and parents, maintaining two deep leadership at all times. The groups will ride out for a certain time frame, then turn around and return to the Hendersonville Pavilion for a quick treat.

Scouts should bring:
*bike
*helmet
*water
*backpack with the six essential items

SCOUTING FOR FOOD

Pack 843 at Summer Day Camp

Cub Scout Day Camp is three days of exciting fun, exciting program activities and adventure at a location close to home with no overnight stay. Day Camp is an introductory outdoor program for Tigers, Cub Scouts, and Webelos with little camping experience. Programs are run by highly trained volunteers and are inspected and accredited annually by the Laurel Highlands Council.

Our 2022 theme will run throughout the daily program of challenge, adventure, creativity, and learning. Both daytime and evening “twilight” camp opportunities are available. Scouts and their siblings can attend any camp that fits their schedule provided they have the required adult leadership. They are also welcome to attend more than one day camp as each one is a little different.

For Pack 843 there are two close options:
South Park
Wednesday 06-22-2022 to Friday 06-24-2022, from 8AM to 4PM
OR
Settlers Cabin Park
Tuesday 06-28-2022 to Thursday 06-30-2022, from 8:30AM to 3PM

Costs Paid in full by
April 1
Paid in full by
May 1
Paid in full 5/2/2021
 or after
Scout $65 $75 $90
Sibling $55 $55 $55
Adult $15 $15 $15

This is NOT a drop off camp. As a PACK we need to provide enough leadership to supervise our scouts.  Susan Lewandowski (Bear Den Leader) will be able to attend all three days of one of the two camp sessions.  We need one other adult each day to provide two deep leadership if any other scouts want to attend.   NOTE: you do not need to attend all three days- we just need to know which day you can attend.

As per BSA regulations, all adults attending camp will need to present the following documents:
– proof of completion of BSA youth protection training. FREE
– PA Criminal Background Check. FREE
– Child Abuse Record Check (Childline). FREE
– Either the PA affidavit for those who have lived in the state for more than 10 years or the FBI clearance for those who have lived out of state. (The FBI report costs $23.85 and requires fingerprinting, so please plan for at least a month to get your fingerprints done and the report sent to you.)

More information about obtaining your clearances can be found here:

https://lhcscouting.org/resources/youth-protection/

For more information or to register go to: https://scoutingevent.com/527-2022CubScoutDayCamp
If your Scout is interested in attending Day Camp, please fill it out this Google Form and we can see how many adult volunteers we have. This will determine how many scouts the Pack can take.  https://forms.gle/hLQG8KKRBpcCiahx6

Arrow of Light Crossover

Arrow of Light Dens 10 and 11

We had a delightful evening celebrating our Arrow of Light Scouts as they crossed over into their new Troops. These Scouts and their families have worked tirelessly to accomplish the necessary advancements and awards to move from one rank to the next over the past several years. This ceremony culminates their journey as Cub Scouts and sends them off with good wishes as they continue on the path with their new BSA Troops. Congratulations!
