October Pack Meeting – Fall Hayride, Good Food and Pie Throwing

Out Annual Pack 843 Fall Hayride is on Sunday October 22nd.  The event starts at 3:00 PM at Boy’s Home Park (near Hogan Field, Boy’s Home Rd. off of Battle Ridge Rd.).  While the Wolf Dens are planning away, they are trying to get a count for food (and possibly pumpkins for the scouts) so we have posted a sign-up sheet for the picnic.  If you are planning to attend, please click here to sign up with the number of family members attending and what dish you would like to bring.

The Wolf Leaders are asking for the Dens to bring:

  • Webelos:  Please bring a HOT SIDE DISH
  • Bear:  Please bring a COLD SIDE DISH
  • Wolves:  Please bring SNACKS
  • Tiger:  Please bring a DESSERT

There is limited seating at the pavilion so you may want to bring chairs.

Only 5 Show-n-Sell dates left – Sign up now!

You only have 5 more Show-N-Sell dates to earn sales and $$ for your scout account.  DON’T MISS OUT!!!

This weekend we will be our last weekend at Walmart in Robinson.  We need 4 scouts every hour so we can cover both Walmart doors.  Our donations this year are close to our amount from last year and we still have 5 show-n-sell days left!  Which means that the scouts that are working the shows are earning some nice $ for their scout account as well as popcorn sales to add to their door-to-door sales amount.

Also, the last 3 Show-N-Sells will only have 2 boys per hour since we will be at Lowes in Washington so those will be filling up fast.

All the show-n-sell sign-ups are now posted.  Click here to sign up

Reminder, it is Wednesday which means you can sign up for more than 2 hours for this weekend.

Den and Pack meeting this week!

Reminder:  Den Meetings will be this Wednesday at the Elementary School.

On Friday, September 22nd we will have a Pack Meeting at 7:00 pm.  The entire family is invited to all our Pack Meetings.  This Pack Meeting will be at the Zion Lutheran Church (Washington Pike, near Giant Eagle).  There will be an opening ceremony (Arrow of Light), advancements, popcorn tasting, prizes, games, and other fun things.  Scouts need to be in Class A uniform (scout shirt, neckerchief and slid). However, if you are new scouts and do no have a uniform yet, please come to the meeting anyhow.  We also have a gift for each new scout, which will be handed out at the Pack meeting. Parents are reminded to bring chairs and jackets for this outside meeting.

What’s Poppin’? Show-n-Sells!!!

Our first two weekends for Show-n-sells have been great.  Again this coming weekend we are at Walmart and will need 4 boys per hour.- so don’t forget to check your schedule and sign-up.  In two weeks we have Lowes in Washington and Robinson so make sure you know the location you are signing up for.  Reminder, you can sign up for 2 hours for every weekend.  HOWEVER, if there are slots available on Wednesday then you can sign up as many hours as you would like.

New Scout Sign-up Night

Do you have a boy who is interested in the adventures that Scouting can provide?   Since its origin, the Scouting program has been an educational experience concerned with values. In 1910, the first activities for Scouts were designed to build character, physical fitness, practical skills, and service. These elements were part of the original Cub Scout program and continue to be part of Cub Scouting today.

On Wednesday, August 30st Pack 843 will have a New Cub Scout Sign-Up Night, in the South Fayette Elementary School cafeteria, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM.   Potential scouts and their parents can get the answers to all their questions, find our more about our program, and register their boys for the new scouting year.

Some basic information about Cub Scouts:

  • Cub Scouting begins for boys in First Grade, or who are 7 years old.  Members at this level  are called Tiger Cubs.  They work closely with an adult partner (parent or guardian) to begin their scouting trail.
  • Members in grades 2 and 3 are called Cub Scouts, and work on Wolf rank (grade 2) or Bear rank (grade 3).
  • Members in grades 4 and 5 are called Webelos Scouts, and work on the Webelos rank and the Arrow of Light rank.
  • Webelos Scouts usually graduate into Boy Scouting in about February of grade 5.
  • All scouts work on their rank by completing a series of Adventures.  They will receive a Cub Scout handbook that will teach them new skills and concepts, and will help guide them through each adventure.
  • The overall Cub Scouting program is family-centered, adult-run, and offers the boys an introduction to scouting.

At the meeting we will be asking for a $35 registration fee.  Fund-raising opportunities will be discussed, and please remember that no boy will be denied membership due to financial concerns.

South Fayette Community Days

Pack 843 will be running a booth at the South Fayette Community Days on Saturday, August 25th,  The event runs from 11 to 5 at Fairview Park.  We want to get as many scouts there IN UNIFORM as we can, to help show the community our involvement, and to recruit your friends to join our Pack!

Scouts, please register on the sign-ups page for a two hour time slot.  We’d like to have at least 2 scouts there at all times, but if there are more, that’s okay!

At the event we will have the ‘Donut on a string’ game (same game played at the Holiday party last year) and others.  We also need scouts to talk about all the fun adventures they experience at scouts.  Sign up now to join in the fun!
