Camporee Invitation for Webelos

Attention Pack 843 Webelos I and Webeos II scouts:  Are you ready to get out there and do some camping?  It’s time for the Fall Camporees!  You have been invited to attend two camporees this year.  This is a great chance to meet and camp with each Troop.

Troop 248 Fall CamporeeSept. 30-Oct 2nd at Camp Bucoco, BSA Moraine Trails Council (12 miles north of Butler, PA.)  THEME:  “THE PATROL GAMES”:     a series of games and contests where patrols will need to cooperate and work as a team to complete FallCamporeeeach task as effectively and quickly as possible.  Patrols will need to use basic “Scoutcraft” skills of first aid, lashing & rope work, fire building, compass & directions, and teamwork to complete the events.  For more information view the flyer, and contact Scoutmaster Tom Taylor.

Troop 2 Frontier District Fall Camporee October 7-9 at Providence Plantation (Evans City).
The living history interpreters at Providence Plantation depict the experiences of revolutionary men and women who struggled and achieved American liberty on the Upper Ohio Valley frontier before colonials in the east were forced by events to fight for the same freedom from the tyranny of Great Britain (late 1700s). Come join us for the weekend as we camp on a private 60-acre site and interactively learn about the history of our region and practice Scouting Skills.  For more information view the flyer, and contact Webelos Liaison Mark Gubinsky.

New Scout Sign-up Night

JoinCubScoutsDo you have a boy who is interested in the adventures that Scouting can provide?   Since its origin, the Scouting program has been an educational experience concerned with values. In 1910, the first activities for Scouts were designed to build character, physical fitness, practical skills, and service. These elements were part of the original Cub Scout program and continue to be part of Cub Scouting today.

On Wednesday, August 31st Pack 843 will have a New Cub Scout Sign-Up Night, in the South Fayette Elementary School cafeteria, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM.   Potential scouts and their parents can get the answers to all their questions, find our more about our program, and register their boys for the new scouting year.

Some basic information about Cub Scouts:

  • Cub Scouting begins for boys in First Grade, or who are 7 years old.  Members at this level  are called Tiger Cubs.  They work closely with an adult partner (parent or guardian) to begin their scouting trail.
  • Members in grades 2 and 3 are called Cub Scouts, and work on Wolf rank (grade 2) or Bear rank (grade 3).
  • Members in grades 4 and 5 are called Webelos Scouts, and work on the Webelos rank and the Arrow of Light rank.
  • Webelos Scouts usually graduate into Boy Scouting in about February of grade 5.
  • All scouts work on their rank by completing a series of Adventures.  They will receive a Cub Scout handbook that will teach them new skills and concepts, and will help guide them through each adventure.
  • The overall Cub Scouting program is family-centered, adult-run, and offers the boys an introduction to scouting.

At the meeting we will be asking for a $35 registration fee.  Fund-raising opportunities will be discussed, and please remember that no boy will be denied membership due to financial concerns.

Fishing Day This Saturday!

peters-lake-parkRemember that our Pack Fishing Day is this Saturday, July 2nd.  We will meet at Peters Lake Park in the morning — beginning at 8 AM (if you can handle it — or arrive later if you can’t).  Mr. Lemonovich will be on hand to supply helpful fishing knowledge to those who need it.  He will bring a few extra rods for any scouts who don’t have their own, but be advised that quantities are limited.  We will have some bait available, but bringing your own worms would be a good idea.

This link is for a Google map to get to Peters Lake Park.  Please use it to get directions before you leave home!  There is a good amount of parking on the North side of the lake, and a few spots on the South side.  When you arrive, search out the Pack 843 table so you can sign in.

All scouts should have a parent or responsible adult with them.  Anyone 16 or over is required by law to have a current PA fishing license before they can fish.  Scouts are encouraged to practice catch-and-release, and must obey state fishing regulations.
