Scouting for Food Update

Scouting For FoodIt was a very successful day on Sunday April 6th.  We had 16 Cub Scouts and their parents participate in our 6 hour food drive at Shop & Save for the local food bank.   The Scouts collect 1,095 parcels of food or household items to deliver to the Bridgeville Food bank, along with the money donations of $430.00.  The Bridgeville Food bank provides food & supplies to over 100 families in the area and they were very grateful for all we collected for them.

Every one of our dens was represented by the Cub Scouts who volunteered at the event. The Scouts that participated will receive a patch for their efforts to this worthy cause.  Thank you to everyone who took time out of their schedule to come and help, it was greatly appreciated!

Hoagie Orders Due Wednesday

Orders for hoagies must be turned in THIS WEDNESDAY at the the den meetings (6:30 to 7:30 at the Elementary School).  If you have orders but cannot make the meeting, you should:
1)  Contact your den leader to see if there is an alternative plan in place, or
2) Contact Ruthie Bushmire (724-746-3477) to find out how to proceed.

Hoagie orders are being submitted on Thursday morning, and payment must be received before the orders are turned in.

Also at Wednesday’s meeting you can sign up for Day Camp.  Payments for Day Camp must be received by April 12th to get the early-bird rate ($55).  Stop by the front desk for more information.

Resident Camp “Early Bird” Deadline

The deadline for the early bird discount is fast approaching.  The early bird rate is $170 for cub scouts and $90 for parents for a total of $260.  Please note this is a $20 increase from last year and some of the early fliers (and web posts) still had last year’s prices.

A $75 deposit per family is due by March 31, 2014.  Mark will be processing our registration and paying the deposit on March 31, 2014.

If you are interested in attending residence camp, but have not signed up, you need to contact Mark as soon as possible.  At this point there are very few spots still available and it is likely our session will sell out.

You can contact Mark by email.

The 2013 Camp Independence Parent’s Guide is available here.  (The 2014 information has not been published yet)

Raingutter Regatta

raingutter regatta trimaranOur next Pack Meeting on April 25th will be the annual Raingutter Regatta.  Boat kits were distributed at the Pack Meeting last Friday.  If you missed the meeting, your den leader should have your boat kit.

This year we are switching to the new trimaran boat kits, and they look pretty cool!  Follow the instruction in the kit and you should be fine.  If you have more questions,  click here for the official rules for this year’s race.

Have fun building the boats, and we’ll see you at the Zion Lutheran Church on the 25th!

Pack Meeting / Day Camp Information

This Friday, March 21st we will have a Pack meeting at the Zion Lutheran Church at 7:00 PM.  There is a GREAT program being presented, so you do not want to miss it!  We will also have information about Scouting for Food, and signups will begin for Day Camp.

twilight campfireThis year the Pack will be attending a Twilight Day Camp from July 8-10 at Cecil Park.  Camp will run from 3:00 to 9:00 in the evening.  There will still be the normal activities like BB guns and archery.  In addition, there will be new “twilight” activities, like campfires and astronomy.

The cost for camp will be $55 if you sign up and pay by April 12th.

We are looking for a parent to volunteer to attend all 3 days of camp with the boys as our Day Camp Coordinator.  Please see the Cubmaster if you would like more information about the job.

Scouting For Food

Scouting for Food is our “Good Turn” to collect canned and
packaged foods for our neighbors in need.  On Sunday, April 6th the Pack will be in front of Shop-n-Save in Bridgeville.  We will be accepting food donations to be given to the local food bank at Bethany Church.  Scouts are asked to sign up for one-hour time slots to hand out flyers and collect donations.  The scouts seem to have a good time at the event, and it is wonderful exposure for the Pack as well as a help to the community.  Please consider signing up to help.

Blue and Gold Banquet Cake Contest

As a reminder, the Blue and Gold Banquet is this Sunday, March 2nd, 3:00 PM at the Fairview Firehall.Cake contest

All boys are invited to participate in the Cake Contest:

Each Scout and an adult partner are challenged to bake and decorate a Scout themed cake.  Some examples are camping, achievement activities, good deeds, etc.  There will be ribbons for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place.  The entire cake, including decorations, must be edible. No paper, toothpicks etc.  Only the thing it sits on doesn’t have to be edible ,but that can’t be part of the decoration.  After the competition the cakes will be served for desert so we would like as many participants as possible.  Place the Scout’s name on the underside of the cake so the competition is as anonymous as possible.  Judging will be done by the 3 Scoutmasters from the Boy Scout Troops that our Webelos II Scouts will be joining.
