Caroling — December 17th

carolingOn Wednesday, December 17th the Pack will be caroling at Washington Commons, 528 Dewey Avenue in Bridgeville.  We will meet there at 6:30, and begin caroling at 7:00.  There will not be regular den meetings on the 17th.

If you can attend, please drop a note to Mark Gubinsky (mark@gubinskylaw.com) and let him know.

Remember what Santa says:  “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.”  (I learned that from an elf).

Troop 2 Pancake Breakfast

The Boy Scouts of Troop 2 in Bridgeville will be holding their annual Pancake Breakfast this weekend — Sunday November 23rd.  The event takes place at Holy Child school in Bridgeville, from 8 AM until 1 PM.  All you can eat pancakes and sausage!  The cost is $6 for adults, $4 for seniors, and $3 for children under 5 OR for scouts in uniform!  Tickets are available at the door (or stop by the front desk at the den meeting and pick some up).

Help support Scouting in your community!

Den and Pack Meeting This Week

The next den meetings will be on Wednesday, November 19th at the Elementary School.  Check with your Den Leader if you don’t know the exact time.  Your den leader should also be able to provide the balance you own for your yearly dues — these will be collected at the Pack Meeting on Friday

On Friday, November 21st, we will be having the Pack Meeting and Talent Show,  7:00 in the Middle School auditorium.  You will be able to pay the balance on your yearly dues at the meeting.  All scouts with fully paid dues will receive their Pinewood Derby car kit.

Help Needed! Church Cleanup

ScoutsAtWorkEvery year the Zion Lutheran Church (our Pack’s charter organization) does a fall clean-up day, and invites the Cub Scouts to pitch in.   This year the clean-up day will be on Saturday, November 22nd.  They will begin about 9:00.

Bob Long, the Den 11 den leader, will be helping to coordinate the Pack’s effort.  Please contact him at longre93 (at) gmail.com with any questions, or to let him know that you can help.  The church has asked that helpers bring work gloves and an extra rake if you have one.  If you wear your uniform, then everyone will be able to tell that our Pack is helping out (and that’s good publicity!)

This is a great chance for the boys to show the Church how much we appreciate their support.  It adds community service hours to their scout record, and (believe it!) the boys will have a good time pitching in.

Haunted Cabin

Haunted CabinCome meet the Ghosts and Ghoulies, the Three Legged Beasties, and all the Critters that call the cabin their home.  Some are small and some are tall, some are covered in hair, some will give you a frightful stare.  No matter what critter you meet on your journey, they are all “just dying” to meet you at the Haunted Cabin 2014!

Troop 248 in Oakdale will be running their annual Haunted Cabin on October 22, 23, 24, and 25, at 248 Clinton Ave, Oakdale, from 7:00 to 9:00 each night.

As a Pack, we will be going to the Cabin together in Thursday, October 23rd.  We’ll meet in front of the cabin at 7:30.  As a group, everyone will receive the discounted admission rate of $3.

So come out on Thursday and have a scary good time, while helping to support local Scouting!  Refreshments will be available, too.  (Standard disclaimer:  this may be a little too scary for some younger scouts.  Use your best judgement about your own kids.)

Fall Hayride, This Sunday!

Pack HayrideTime for the Pack 843 Fall Hayride, Sunday October 19th!  The event starts at 3:00 PM at Boy’s Home Park (near Hogan Field, Boy’s Home Rd. off of Battle Ridge Rd.).  Planned festivities include

  • Advancements and awards
  • Pie throwing at the Cubmaster
  • Dinner
  • Hayride
  • A pumpkin patch (thanks to the new South Fayette Giant Eagle)
  • A visit from Oakridge Fire Dept.

Remember to bring the side dish or dessert you signed up for.  Seating is always limited, so bring lawn chairs if you can.

Youth Protection

One on the cornerstones of the Boy Scouts of America’s efforts to keep all Scouts safe is the Youth Protection Training: New leaders are required to take Youth Protection Training within 30 days of registering and before volunteer service with youth begins. Leaders must retake the course every 2 years to remain current.

But the course is not just for leaders. ALL PARENTS are encouraged to take the training as well.  It takes about 30 minutes, and will give you an understanding of what we (and you) do to ensure the safety of our youth. To take Youth Portection Training:

1  Click the icon below to go to https://my.scouting.org/:

2.Create a username and password.

3. Click on the Youth Protection icon to take the course.

Parents, you are done!  For newly registered leaders or committee members, there are two more steps:

5. (New registered adults only)  When you complete the course, print a certificate of completion to submit with a volunteer application, or submit the certificate to the unit leader for processing at the local council.

6. (New registered adults only)  When your volunteer application is approved, you will receive a BSA membership card, which includes your member ID number. You must enter this member ID into your MyScouting profile so that your local council has a record of the training you have taken online. To do this, log into MyScouting, click My Profile, and enter your member ID number. This links your Youth Protection training, and any other MyScouting training, to your BSA membership.

Fall Hayride Signups

Please remember to tell us the number of people who will attend, and what side dish or dessert you will bring.  To get a better balance of food, we are asking Wolf and Bear dens to bring a side dish, while Tigers and Webelos should bring a dessert.

If you already signed up at the last den meeting, you do not need to sign up again (but you can if you want to).

Den Meeting, Hayride, and Reminders

The next den meeting will be at the South Fayette Elementary School on Wednesday, Oct. 1st.  Times vary by den, so check with your Den Leader if you aren’t sure.

  • Sell any item (just 1!) for a patch.  Other prizes start at just $60 in sales!
  • Sell at least one item and your Pack dues are reduced by $20.
  • Sell $350 worth and your dues are PAID IN FULL.

Cubmobile Results Posted

Cubmobile TrophyAt the September Pack meeting we revealed the results from the Cubmobile races that were held at Settler’s Cabin in April.  The Pack brought home four trophies from the races:

  • 3rd place overall for Wolves: Team “Kryptonian Squirrels” (Tommy and Mason)
  • 3rd place overall for Bears: Team “Black Lightening 1” (David, Dylan, and Cody)
